Lonely Planet recently selected the Westfjords as the best region in the world to visit in 2022. It is not a surprise to me. Every time I see this remote region, it is just incredible. My go-to phrase about the Westfjords is that region in Iceland, but even more so. I have often visited this wonderful corner of Iceland, and every time I discover some unique places. But I am not an expert on the Westfjords. The Lonely Planet nomination prompted me to contact Díana Jóhannsdóttir from Visit Westfjords and ask her to tell my readers the ten must-see places in Westfjords.

I am the Visit Westfjords, born and bred in Akureyri in North Iceland but moved to Ísafjörður 12 years ago with my husband. We are now a family of three, bringing up a true Westfjordian girl.

What advice would you give to those who are visiting the Westfjords for the first time?

My best advice is to take plenty of time to enjoy and travel slowly through the region. Many people try to squeeze the Westfjords into a day or two, but we recommend using five days of exploring.

I know this is a tricky question, but what are the ten-must see places in the Westfjords?

Here there are in no particular order:
